The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that my article "Best of the Legal Web - General Resources", which appears in the May/June 2013 edition of the Internet Newsletter for Lawyers, has now been republished in the features section for October of the popular student website Law Careers.Net www.lawcareers.net/Information/Features/30092013-Best-of-the-legal-web-general-resourcesLaw Careers.NetProviding a canter through some of the most helpful (dare I say it, essential) websites for the busy legal professional, the resources are also incredibly helpful for law students and those contemplating a career in the law. Offering commentary and advice about where to look for vital resources, the article is a quick guide to some great websites. If you need something a little more detailed, then you would do well to take a look at our excellent Practitioner's Guide to the Internet series, which come with the added benefit of accredited CPD hours  to boot. With specific practice areas catered for, the Family, Criminal, Civil and Property guides are all subject-specific guides to what the busy practitioner needs, and where they can find helpful resources online. Whilst some of the resources may be very familiar to them, there should be some hidden gems uncovered which they may not have come across or not thought to use in this way. Ranging from 2 to 3 CPD hours each, the guides offer a great way of keeping up to date with resources in your practice area, whilst brushing up your IT skills and earning CPD in a flexible, easy to use manner. These courses offer a great way to finish off this year's CPD whilst learning how to make your working life easier.

Chartered Legal Executive lawyers are feeling the pressure, with a new CPD deadline this year. CILEx and IPS have moved the end of the CPD year to the 30th September this year. This takes the pressure off around the busy Christmas period, but adjusting to the new professional deadline may catch some lawyers unawares. Details of this new deadline can be found on the CILEx website here, and the benefit is that the hours for the year have been pro-rated, to take into account the shortened CPD year for 2013. So, for this year only...CILEx

  • Fellows and Associate Prosecutors will need to undertake only 12 CPD hours;
  • Graduates 9 CPD hours; and
  • Associates 6 CPD hours

The hours will increase back to their normal levels for the 2013/2014 CPD year, but that is an issue for another day.

For those caught out by the new deadline, our online CPD may well be the perfect answer. Straightforward CPD provided wholly online from start to finish, with built-in flexibility to enable the user to stop, start, re-read and use as they wish. Flexible enough to be completed in those rare moments in between clients, at the end of the working day, or whenever suits you. Our accredited CPD courses are available online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

As our courses are accredited by both the Bar Standards Board and Solicitors' Regulation Authority, they meet the requirements of category (iv) of the Recognised CPD activities (see here for the 2013 CPD handbook) "Any course taken with a training provider accredited by the Law Society or any other professional body may be used as CILEx CPD, provided the requirements of the CILEx scheme are satisfied."

You can get started right now, simply register, put the courses in the basket, pay online and you gain instant access to the courses. Simple, easy to use and effective CPD.

We have a range of courses, lasting from 1 hour to 3 hours, as well as a multiple purchase discount offer, enabling you to buy 12 hours of CPD for the price of 9 (a 25% discount) - perfect if you wish to take some CPD courses in this CPD year, and others in the next!

Just a quick note to mention that I have another article published in Delia Venables & Nick Holmes' excellent Internet Newsletter for Lawyers (May/June 2013 edition). Recently they have made the newsletter available online to non-subscribers, which is undoubtedly going to gain them many fans. To take their own description of the newsletter, it says:

"The Newsletter has become a community of lawyers who are interested in how to make the most of the legal internet – how it presents the law, how it widens access to the law, legal aspects of e-commerce and websites, how lawyers use the internet to market themselves and to sell legal services online and related IT issues."

My most recent article is about the "Best of the INL MayJune 2013Legal Web - general resources", providing a quick round-up of some of the most helpful websites for legal professionals seeking relevant information to help them in their daily work. Coming in a future issue will be a more practice-area specific guide. These articles are considerably expanded in our popular "Practitioners' Guides to the Internet" CPD courses, which are variously accredited for 2 or 3 CPD hours.

We are thrilled to launch 2 new 1 CPD hour courses this spring.

"An Introduction to Adult Community Care Law: Context, Assessment, Eligibility & Care Planning" and "An Introduction to Adult Community Care Law: Non-Residential & Residential Services" are 2 1 CPD hour accredited courses written by barrister and expert in the field Michael Furminger. They offer a great introduction to this complex area of law, or a useful refresher for those with more experience in this area. Michael Furminger

Each course is accredited for 1 CPD hour by the Bar Standards Board for 2013 and by the Solicitors' Regulation Authority, and suitable for CILEX CPD, these courses are a convenient way to introduce yourself to the latest information in this area online, or refresh your knowledge.

Community Care Law is a growing area, and is particularly valuable to solicitors and chartered legal executives. Whilst most solicitors do traditional private client work, an understanding of community care law would help you to offer advice in this area (on subjects such as paying for care, care plans and needs assessments) and ensure that you can obtain or retain the associated work, such as conveyancing, will writing and LPAs.

Our online course materials are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and upon successful completion of the multiple choice assessment at the end of the course, you can automatically access your completion certificate.

At just £16 + VAT per CPD hour, this is a cost-effective way to keep up to date with issues of mental capacity. The course is packed full of useful online resources, combined with a straightforward guide to the basics about mental capacity.
